DENTAL IMPLANT

Overview:

A dental implant is a replacement for a missing tooth or teeth that are supported solely by the bone.

It is different from other forms of replacement because it does not depend on the standing tooth or teeth.

Dental implants have three main parts, they are;

1. Implant
2. Abutment
3. Crown

The implant is the part that is seated into the bone, this is done after assessment, the implant is made from different materials but the most viable material is titanium because it is biocompatible ( body-friendly). This stage of the treatment takes between two months and three months depending on the healing process.

The abutment extends the dental implant from the jaw bone into the mouth. At this stage, a measurement is taken to fabricate the crown or bridge for both temporary and permanent prostheses.

The crown or bridge is the visible part of the dental implant that replaces the missing tooth or teeth.

Dental implants as a replacement for a missing tooth or teeth is different from other forms of replacement in that they can be placed firmly without the presence of teeth in the area.

Please note that dental implants take more time to complete because the body needs to accept the implant.
